WWE Hall Of Famer and 16-time former World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair is set to spectacularly return to the ring for one final time this July at the age of 73.
Despite his recent health issues Flair took to Twitter to announce that he was putting the rumours to bed by confirming he is having one last match, and in a nod to his past, the show will be held under the banner of Jim Crockett Promotions.
A post on the veteran wrestler's Twitter account said: "The Rumors Are True! I’m Going To Walk That Aisle, Style And Profile, One Last Time! July 31st! Nashville, Tennessee! Jim Crockett Promotions! I Will Prove Once Again, That To Be The Man, You’ve Got To Beat The Man! Now We Go To School! WOOOOO!"
A full press release on the Starrcast website gives more information about the match, and says Flair’s final opponent, and events full card, will be revealed at a later date.
The statement said: "On July 31, at 6.05pm EDT, 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair, who many consider the greatest professional wrestler of all-time, is set to return to the ring, one final time, as part of 'Jim Crockett Promotions Presents: Ric Flair’s Last Match' wrestling event.
"Taking place at the world famous Nashville Fairgrounds, the 16-time former World Heavyweight Champion will don a new custom-made robe and bring the one-of-a-kind showmanship that has made Flair a cultural icon for his over-40 years in the professional wrestling business."
Flair added: “I’m going to walk that aisle, one last time to prove once and for all, that to be the Man, you’ve got to beat the Man."
According to Inside the Ropes former WCW announcer Chris Cruise has previously gone on record at voicing his unhappiness at Flair returning to the ring given his recent health battles.
Cruise urged fans to contact their local athletic commissions in an attempt to stop Flair from getting a license to return to the ring.
