WWE Crown Jewel 2022: Preview and predictions as Logan Paul eyes title

WWE presents Crown Jewel 2022 from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday (November 5) with Logan Paul looking to shock the world and dethrone Roman Reigns.

The YouTuber turned boxer turned megastar, now a signed WWE talent, wrestles in just his third match for the company.

He teamed with The Miz to defeat Rey and Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania 38, before tangling with his partner turned enemy at SummerSlam back in August.

Now he’ll feature in what will surely be the main event of the evening at Mrsool Park as he steps up to face arguably the industry’s biggest star, Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

The bout is one of a number of key title clashes set for a mammoth event – Daily Star has you covered with the best of what to look out for with this handy preview, including our predictions.

Roman Reigns v Logan Paul – Undisputed WWE Universal Championship

Roman Reigns has been built and established as a bigger, bolder more dominant champion than any in recent WWE history – so it’s no understatement to say Paul has his work cut out on Saturday.

The likelihood is that he’ll come up short and that Reigns will retain – it seems a stretch even by WWE standards to think a part-time member of the roster and one so relatively unexperienced would be given the nod to down Reigns when so many elite-level performers have failed to do so in the past.

And yet, this is WWE, isn’t it? So you can never be 100% sure. If there’s an unexpected, shock result coming anywhere in the company’s annual schedule, you can bet on it happening at a Saudi Arabia show.

For our money, we expect Reigns to be pushed to the limit to help Logan Paul – who will be cornered by brother Jake Paul for the match – stand out. Come the end, though, the Tribal Chief will have his hands raised.

The OC vs The Judgement Day – Six-man tag

The Judgement Day have established themselves as the dastardliest of WWE’s factions thanks to their evil attack on Beth Phoenix at Extreme Rules.

Their latest feud is with The OC – AJ Styles and his recently returned buddies Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.

Save for when the latter returned a few weeks back, it has hardly been emphatic and free-flowing stuff for The OC. Really, they could do with a win here, and an emphatic one at that to stop the comebacks of Gallows and Anderson becoming something of a damp squib.

The establishment here of The Judgement Day as such prominent heels is that they can actually afford to lose one here without being harmed by it, so we’d expect AJ and The Good Brothers to get the W. Perhaps look out for the arrival of an ally to help deal with Rhea Ripley, too.

Brock Lesnar v Bobby Lashley

This isn’t likely to be one of the more gentile outings of the night, so expect big things when these two animals get their hands on one another.

Lashley has made no secret of his wish to face Lesnar in WWE over the years. Quite why it is happening now isn’t clear (Lesnar turned up on Raw one night and beat up Bob, just because, it seems), but we’re not sorry to see it.

He could do with a win after losing his United States title because of Lesnar, while The Beast might benefit from shrugging off quite so many defeats to Reigns. It might be hard to separate them.

Daily Star predicts: No contest (DQ finish, brawl, take your pick)

Bianca Belair v Bayley – Raw Women’s Championship Last Woman Standing

This collision for the red brand’s women’s championship should be one of the best watches of the night and, while it’s unlikely to stay free of any extracurricular antics, it should still be epic to see Bianca Belair and Bayley go at it again.

It’s one of a few matches on the card that has you scratching your head to pick a winner. Bayley, despite having pinned Belair twice in the last couple of months, just doesn’t quite feel like she’s moved herself onto the champion’s ridiculously high level just yet.

Belair has been utterly dominant as champion over the course of her reign – is it time for her to find new challenges and rivalries away from the gold?

Daily Star predicts – Bayley

Braun Strowman v Omos

If Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque has inherited one passion from his predecessor as Head of WWE creative, father-in-law Vince McMahon, it would seemingly be for having big men thrash each other at major events.

But while Lashley and Lesnar has been built on a history, Braun Strowman and Omos are apparently just big men who’re brawling because, well, they’re big men.

Strowman, like Gallows and Anderson, could do with that major standout moment following his WWE return, so we’d look for that to come at the expense of Omos here.

Drew McIntyre v Karrion Cross – Steel cage match

Poor Drew McIntyre.

We said after his Extreme Rules loss to Karrion Kross that our man Drew McIntyre needed a boost. He’s yet to really get it.

He’s floundered since main eventing Clash at the Castle in Cardiff in September, through no real fault of his own. The feud with Kross isn’t helping – and that’s not necessarily down to Kross, either. He, too, is one of Triple H’s bring-backs, but there seems something of a disconnect between Kross and WWE audiences which is stopping him from progressing.

Whatever happens in Saudi, this has to be all she wrote for the feud. Please.

Alexa Bliss and Asuka v Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky – Women’s Tag Team Championship

Plenty of fans were a little confused on Raw this past week when Damage CTRL lost their tag team championships to Alexa Bliss and Asuka, somewhat randomly, when this match was already scheduled for the weekend, and after the pairing had previously barely got near the prior incumbents in past attempts.

Our theory is that, with Bayley snaring the gold from Belair will come later in the night, and off the back of her team mates having avenged their loss by winning the tag titles straight back.

Some have said Damage CTRL has collectively failed to build real momentum, so what better way than to have them leave Crown Jewel with all the gold?

The Usos vs Ridge Holland and Butch – Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship

On first glance it’s tempting to say that The Usos retaining their titles and prolonging what’s fast approaching a record-setting reign in WWE is as clear-cut a prediction as we could make for Crown Jewel – and we think that’s what will happen.

Let’s play devil’s advocate for a moment, though. The New Day have slowly started to rise back into the tag team scene after being wasted by The Viking Raiders, and are loosely mentioned in connection with the Uso’s reign most weeks.

Perhaps the best way to stop The Usos breaking said record – held by the New Day – is for Kofi and Xavier Woods to cost them the straps in a shock win for the Brits? It would cause tension in The Bloodline, after all.

You can probably rule it out. Probably.

Daily Star predicts: The Usos
