Prince William wants to get "his side out there" after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Oprah interview and “protect” his wife, a source has claimed.
The Duke of Cambridge became the first royal to publicly comment on the broadcast last month.
He said the monarchy is "very much not a racist family" after Meghan alleged a senior royal had expressed concerns about how dark Archie’s skin may be.
The Queen afterwards issued a short statement and said the issues raised would be investigated "privately".
A royal insider told US Weekly: "[She] thinks that retaliating will only add fuel to the fire and make the situation worse."
At one point during the interview, Meghan claimed that Kate Middleton had made her cry during a row over bridesmaid dresses.
The source claimed: "William is struggling to hold back. He wants to get his side out there."
His supposed reasoning is "firstly to protect Kate" and "clear the racial allegations".
A Kensington Palace spokeswoman declined to comment.

The Duke of Cambridge and his dad Prince Charles spoke with Harry after the interview, according to US journalist Gayle King.
However, the talks were said to be "unproductive".
Harry earlier claimed that he and Meghan were financially cut off in the first quarter of 2020 and that Charles had stopped taking his calls after Megxit.
The Duke said: "There's a lot to work through there. I feel really let down because he's been through something similar. He knows what pain feels like, andArchie is his grandson.
"At the same time I will always love him, but there's a lot of hurt that's happened.
"I will continue to make it one of my priorities to try and heal that relationship, but they only know what they know."
At one point, Oprah pressed Harry on his relationship with William.
