Cars have been parked on the central reservation to avoid rising water and many motorists stop in the road with their hazard lights on as the roads became impassable.

A number of roads have also had to close such as Clarence Drive in Glasgow’s Hyndland area.

Yellow and amber warnings have been issued across parts of Scotland and Northern England and the whole of Wales is also covered by a yellow warning.

England has also been issued nine flood warnings and 19 flood alerts.

Drivers in the affected areas have been urged not to travel where possible.

The warnings are in place until midnight on Thursday.


Glasgow hit by torrential rain just days before Cop26

Glasgow has been hit by torrential downpours just days before the city is due to host the UN climate conference, Cop26. 

Train services have been cancelled and roads are blocked due to flooding. 

More heavy rain is expected in the coming days.

South Lakes Police urge drivers not to travel

South Lakes Police have ordered drivers to only travel where necessary as the  A591 Rydal to Grasmere is not passible due to flooding.
