An England fan who died celebrating Harry Kane's goal versus Germany told his mum he loved her before the game.

"Fit" 29-year-old Charlie Naughton, collapsed as the pub he was in erupted when Harry Kane found the back of the net for his first goal of Euro 2020 last Tuesday.

Paramedics battled for three hours to save Charlie's life but the bricklayer from Hayes, west London, was pronounced dead in hospital at 9.20pm.

Watching England double their lead while surrounded by friends and family at The Crown in Cowley, London, was "the perfect moment for him to have gone," his heartbroken mum Karen said.

She told The Sun: "I called him before the game and he said to believe, that he loved me, I told him I loved him.

“He called me mucker, and when France were knocked out he was so excited, he said to me that all we had to do was beat the Germans and we could win. That it was coming home.

“He really lived and breathed football, he’s the biggest supporter you’d ever meet.

“He is a big brother to his two sisters, we’re all so close and we love him so much.

Charlie, decked out in his beloved England strip with Three Lions on his chest, had already celebrated seeing Raheem Sterling put the national team 1-0 up against bitter rivals Germany.

Friends and family at the pub believed he may have fainted as he went to celebrate the second goal, and hit his head as he crashed to the floor.

#RIPCharlie was soon trending locally on Twitter.
