Top drug cartel boss ‘sends 500 soldiers’ to kill rival and burn nightclubs

The world's most powerful drug cartel boss has allegedly sent 500 "soldiers" to take out a rival gang and burn down nightclubs in enemy territories.

Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada has been the leader of the infamous Sinaloa Cartel – considered the world's most powerful drug trafficking organisation – since the arrest of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán in 2016.

In a letter circulating online, El Mayo appears to threaten Iván 'El Tanque' Casarín Molina, who runs the Jalisco New Generation Cartel's (CJNG) operations in the Mexican state of Veracruz.

Although there has been no official confirmation that the letter is authentic, Borderland Beat reports that cartels often call out fake narco messages, which hasn't happened in this case.

The letter, which is addressed to the "people of Veracruz", sees El Mayo announce his intention to wrest control of the territory from the CJNG.

He also accuses the rival gang of perpetrating several crimes against the state's civilian population, and threatens them with a "general clean-up".

The letter starts: "We announce today, May 11, 2022, by means of this communiqué the arrival of 200 soldiers deployed from Chiapas, Tabasco, and Cancún.

"And in the next few days another 300 will arrive at the port of Veracruz, for the final annihilation of the Jaliscans.

"And today, Veracruz will be taken from these delinquents and soon Oaxaca."

El Mayo then sends a chilling message to El Tanque and two of his lieutenants, continuing: "We announce a general cleanup. I am coming for you El Tanque, 80 Semáforo or Luz Apagada, kidnapper and murderer of innocents and current head of the Veracruz state plaza.

"We have addresses of vendors, puntos, kidnappers, safe houses and officials and if they are not aligned with us they will be exposed in the coming days in narcomantas [messages] placed throughout the state."

The drugs boss goes on to list a number of Veracruz nightclubs by name, which will be "burned either with people or without people inside" if they don't align themselves with the Sinaloa Cartel.

Cuitláhuac García Jiménez, the Governor of Veracruz, is also threatened. The letter accuses him of throwing parties "where you hire men to f**k you".

El Mayo signs off by declaring a 10.30pm curfew in Veracruz, promising civilians that they will no longer be victims of extortion or kidnappings at the hands of the CJNG.
