Royal fans go wild for dazzling new New Years snap of Kate Middleton and William

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have set Twitter alight with a special message to their fans this New Year's Eve.

Simply tweeting, from the @KensingtonRoyal account, that they wished “everyone a Happy New Year” with a firework emoji, they posted a photo of themselves in a leather-seated car, smiling while holding hands.

Kate Middleton sparkled in a shimmery golden dress, while Prince William is wearing a more traditional black tuxedo and black bow-tie.

It is not clear if the photo was taken tonight, or where they were off to, but Twitter reacted with glee at the photo of everyone's favourite Royal couple – although there were rumours that the photo was actually taken earlier this year at the premier of the latest James Bond film.

@IssuesOfMyTime wrote: “What a beautiful photo.

“I hope people realize that they are a very affectionate couple, who hold hands a lot more than people ever see.

“They’re just professional enough to not do it at their workplace.

“20 years together and still smiling – love it!”

@Clarescastle added: “These two.

“They have owned 2021 – ending it with an absolute blinder of a photo.

“A showstopper – HNY to them too.”

And @CountessCommon1 summed up the vast majority of the comments, writing: “The King and Queen energy.

“Laughing at the haters and lazy they’re leaving behind in the rear view after a very successful year.”
There is no word yet on what the Royal couple will be doing to see in the New Year, or how William's mother, The Queen will be celebrating, either.

Although, Mick Booker comically tweeted that the couple could be “driving around the city centre in a Hummer convertible shouting out of the windows at pedestrians.”

The photo has, so far, been retweeted more than 1,500 times, and has around 25,000 likes – in just over one hour of being online.
