Mystery as cheerleader killed in cinema ‘shooting’ – but no shots heard

A teenage girl was tragically found dead and her friend, a popular TikTok influencer, suffered severe injuries after a "shooting" during the screening of a horror movie – but no one reportedly heard gunfire.

The victims were watching latest blockbuster horror 'The Forever Purge', a film where the government legalises all crime including murder when the incident happened just before midnight on Monday.

18-year-old Rylee Goodrich was found dead while her friend and TikTok influencer Anthony Barajas, 19, was admitted to hospital with critical injuries following the alleged shooting at Regal Edwards Corona Crossings in California.

The victims were reportedly found by staff as they were cleaning up, New York Post reported.

Employee Kailyn Dillon told local agency KCAL: "During the actual movie time, no one apparently heard the gunshot."

It is understood that no firearm was recovered from the scene and police have no information on the potential suspect.

No arrests were made on Tuesday and a motive remains unknown.

It's not yet known if detectives are investigating if the film's themes could be related to the shooting, Corporal Tobias Kouroubacalis told the Press-Enterprise.

Police said: "Detectives are conducting follow-up on all investigation leads with hopes of identifying the person (s) responsible for this heinous crime."

Gloria Jennifer Castro, another cinema-goer who was in a different part of the building when the film stopped, toldNBCLA: "They told us to leave. There was an emergency, just leave fast. It's pretty scary, the fact we didn't know nothing was going on. Just scary."

AGoFundMe page has been created to help pay for Rylee's funeral expenses.

The 18-year-old who lost her life was an avid volleyball player and cheerleader, she had been granted a scholarship to Grand Canyon University in its STEM program, according to ABC7.

Ashley Cole, Rylee's cousin, told the outlet that the teen had "great heart" and thoroughly enjoyed helping others.

19-year-old Barajas had more than 920,000 followers on TikTok and over 40,000 followers on Instagram.

The Forever Purge is the fifth film in The Purge series.

A sixth installment is reportedly in development.
