Meghan Markle could follow in Schwarzenegger’s footsteps with US politics move

Meghan Markle’s secret meeting with a top US politician hints at an Arnold Schwarzenegger-style switch into politics, a US expert claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex reportedly spent an hour chatting to the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom about the state she and Prince Harry live in.

A prominent Democratic strategist said politicians in the US are hoping the Suits star will follow in the path of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who in 2003 flipped from acting to politics.

Mike Trujillo told The Times Meghan is "putting her toe in the water" but is held back given her position in the Royal Family.

Mr Trujillo believes it won’t be long before she is "fully in" to politics as she’s "dinging everything" that is "similar to what other folks have done before they run for office."

He also likened the Duchess of Sussex’s latest moves to that of Schwarzenegger and said he used his Arnold All Stars foundation as a "vehicle" to talk about school care and tutoring.

Mr Trujillo said: "Everything she’s doing is similar to what other folks have done before they run for office.

“Arnold Schwarzenegger, before he ran for governor, had a big after-school foundation that promoted opening after-school clubs, that was called Arnold’s All Stars.

"He used that as a vehicle to talk about the need for tutoring and after school care. Really easy stuff. That’s what introduced him to politics."

He added: "She’s doing everything that’s appropriate and allowed given her new position but she’s definitely putting her toe in the water.

"And once your toe is in the water your whole foot is in and next thing you know you are knee-deep and then you are fully in."

Meghan’s foray into politics has previously been met with criticism after she and Prince Harry spoke up about the presidential election, which Joe Biden later won.
