Meghan Markle and Prince Harry start parental leave after baby’s arrival

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have started their parental leave following the arrival of their second child.

The couple welcomed Lilibet 'Lili' Diana into the world on Friday with the new arrival weighing a healthy 7lb 11oz.

The sweet news means that the Duke of Duchess of Sussex are now on parental leave in order to look after their new arrival, baby Lili.

A statement on their Archewell Foundation website reads: "For those inquiring on sending gifts, we would ask that you support or learn more about these organizations working for women and girls: Girls Inc., Harvest Home, CAMFED or Myna Mahila Foundation.

"While the Duke and Duchess are on parental leave, Archewell will continue to do important work and publish stories on the site. We look forward to seeing you!"

It has previously been reported that the couple were looking forward to some "real quality time together" after their second child's arrival.

In April Vanity Fair reported of the couple's plans to take some time off from their busy schedules and working life following their second child's birth.

"They will both take some proper time off," a friend is reported to have told the publication.

"It will be the summer and they want to make sure they both take their leave so they have some real quality time together once the baby arrives."

The new arrival's name Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, was a sweet nod to Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth and his late mother, Princess Diana.

Lilibet is the Queen's favourite nickname while the baby's middle name was chosen to honour Harry's beloved late mother, who died in 1997.

Harry and Meghan have thanked the public for their warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this "special time as a family.”

The couple's statement reads: "On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili.

"She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe.

"Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

Harry has previously suggested their daughter will be their last child in the sit-down with US television legend Oprah.

He said: "A girl, you know, what more can you ask for? But now, you know, now we’ve got our family."
