The man accused of knifing nine-year-old Lilia Valutyte to death has been attacked behind bars.

Deividas Skebas, 22, was allegedly “slashed and stabbed” with a homemade weapon by another inmate in front of shocked guards and prisoners.

The incident, at the start of this week, left Skebas desperately gasping for air as prison officers took him to the hospital wing in HMP Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

A source said: “It is a miracle he has survived it, to be perfectly honest. When he was taken out, he was not looking good. They were deep cuts.

“No-one thought he was surviving. He was taken to the hospital wing and the alleged attacker was hauled straight to the segregation wing. He’s still there now.”

Our source said the crime Skebas is accused of made him a target.

They continued: “People like that don’t fit in well in prison and especially at Wakefield.

“If you are coming in and people think you have hurt a child, you can expect the prisoners to give you their own version
of justice.”

Lilia, who loved dancing and Harry Potter, died from a single stab wound on July 28 as she played with her little sister outside a café in Boston, Lincolnshire.

Her mother revealed how she heard her daughter scream “Mummy” as she was randomly attacked in the street.

Skebas was arrested and will appear at Lincoln Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on September 19.
