Lane closures this week in Eisenhower Tunnel for fire suppression system checks.

Overnight lane closures are planned so transportation officials can test the Eisehnower Tunnel’s fire suppression system.

“This annual testing is crucial in ensuring the system is properly working in the event a fire breaks out in the tunnel,” the Colorado Department of Transportation said in a news release.

The scheduled I-70 lane closures are:

  • Sunday, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., one westbound lane.
  • Monday 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., full westbound closure.
  • Tuesday, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., full eastbound closure.
  • Wednesday, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., one eastbound lane.
  • Thursday, reserved for any outstanding system testing.

During the two full directional closures Monday and Tuesday, vehicles will be detoured into other lanes, and traffic will be alternated with temporary traffic signals and a pilot car. Drivers should expect a 15-minute delay.
