Kate Middleton becoming Princess of Wales would be ‘bittersweet’ for William

Prince William may feel mixed emotions when Kate Middleton becomes the next Princess of Wales.

The Duke of Cambridge is expected to receive the prestigious Prince of Wales title when Prince Charles takes the throne, which would see Kate take the late Princess Diana’s title.

Although it is custom for the heir to the throne to become the Prince of Wales, it is not automatically given to them and must be bestowed upon them by the reigning monarch.

It is more than likely that Charles will pass the title onto William, and it is expected to be an emotional moment for the Duke of Cambridge.

A royal source has said the moment will be “bittersweet” for William if he sees Kate being made the Princess of Wales.

Although Camilla Parker-Bowles currently holds the title, she has never used it out of respect for Diana.

Speaking to the Telegraph about Diana, the source said: “I’m sure it’ll be a bit of a bittersweet moment

"This is her son and his wife, so in some ways it will be coming full circle—but it will also be a poignant reminder of what we all lost."

Diana was tragically killed in a car crash in Paris, France after fleeing from paparazzi.

She passed away from internal bleeding and other injuries on August 31 in 1997, aged 36.

The Duke of Cambridge was just 15-year-old when his mother passed away.

His wife Kate has continually paid tribute to Diana through wearing her jewellery to engagements.

Kate recently wore an item of Diana’s jewellery for a photoshoot to mark her 40th birthday.

The Duchess of Cambridge released three photographs from the shoot, which will all be added to a collection at the National Portrait Gallery.

Body language expert Judi James believes the photoshoot marks the long-awaited launch of “brand Kate” as the Duchess is “embracing her future destiny”.

Speaking to the Express, Ms James said: "This launch of ‘brand Kate’ has been a long time coming, suggesting an ongoing sense of modesty and a desire to avoid stealing the spotlight.

"Incredibly this is almost the first time Kate has posed for her birthday with her eyes looking direct to camera.”
