A man has shared his regret over splitting up with his girlfriend just months before her family scoped £61m on the EuroMillions jackpot.

Rugby player Daniel White says he was dumped by his childhood sweetheart Courtney Davies after the pair had drifted apart.

He said he experienced double the heartache after his friends ridiculed him when they found out her family later won the lottery.

Daniel and Courtney were dating for two years at Monmouth Comprehensive School in Wales before they broke up.

The 27-year-old said: “It was a school and teenage romance which just tailed off.

"We had different interests and different friends.”

But little did he know that his lack of fight to stay together would be a valuable mistake after her sister Stephanie purchased a lucky dip ticket from her local garage back in 2016.

The generous family agreed to share out the fortune, which included handing a £12million sum to Stephanie’s boyfriend.

Daniel was Stephanie's next door neighbour at the time, reports The Sun.

He previously said: “All my mates are savaging me – the first I knew of their win was my phone going nuts.

“The boys were all sending me links and jokey Snapchats asking if I was gutted. One said ‘how much have you cried since you found out mate?’

“I just put my head in my hands. I'm happy for them – but obviously I feel like it could have been me.”

The Daily Star previously reported how a family had a major feud after their dad bagged £3.1million in a bus driver syndicate.

Alex Robertson was named among the lucky workers who won a whopping £38million in Corby, Northants.

But the jackpot caused more harm than good after his sons claimed their father wouldn't give them a share of his winnings.

Alex Jnr, 45, admitted: “We ended up taking hammers to his two new 4×4 Shoguns.

"We walked up his driveway at 11 o'clock at night and put two claw hammers through the windows of the car.

"We then reported ourselves to the police.”

He said at the time: “This lottery win was the worst thing that ever happened to us — it ripped our families apart."
