A huge waterspout has been seen near the island of Majorca by residents trapped inside their homes during coronavirus lockdown.
Footage taken by quarantined Vox party politician Jorge Campos Asensi show the waterspout spinning fast in the bay area of Llucmajor in the city of Palma yesterday.
The huge vortex is seen linking the sea level to a dark cloud above and moving slowly along the bay.
According to Majorca Daily Bulletin, the water tornado appeared at around 10.45am and was observable from distances of 10 kilometres.
But such a phenomenon is not uncommon and it is not necessarily a tornado.
Watersprouts remain mostly on water and will turn to tornadoes as soon as they approach over land, which will cause damage to properties and pose risks to human lives.
It is reported that the police in Llucmajor were keeping a close monitor on its development.
But it's understood that the vortex diminished after a few minutes and disappeared.
The State Agency of Meteorology warned on Sunday that there could be cloud cover and rainstorms on the island during a new cold front hitting the, with Ibiza and Majorca both especially likely to receive the storm.
Local media report other areas of the island such as Manacor and Sant Llorenc des Cardassars suffered hail storms but no damage has been reported in the incident.
Jorge Campos Asensi is the president of the far-right Vox party in the Balearic Islands.
Quarantine restrictions have been in place in the Balearic Islands for nearly two weeks now and according to the Government Delegation, the National Police and Guardia Civil were deployed to the streets to detain any residents who violated the rules.
