Former WWE star Matt Cardona is set to return to the UK after several years when he appears at an “extreme” wrestling show in Liverpool.

The man formerly known as Zack Ryder, who is the current NWA World's Heavyweight champion, will be competing appearing at TNT Wrestling's Supreme Extreme event on September 15.

Matt has become a controversial figure in wrestling since his WWE release in 2020.

The former WWE Intercontinental Champion has gone from being seen as a goofy character on Monday Night Raw and Smackdown, to becoming a hated figure among wrestling fans – which he has now turned into his entire character.

It is not known, however, if wife Chelsea Green will be accompanying him.

Jay Apter, TNT Founder told the Daily Star: “I'm absolutely thrilled to be bringing the world renowned Matt Cardona to TNT and it will be nothing short of a pleasure to work with this insanely creative generational talent.”

And Martyn Best, co-owner of TNT Extreme Wrestling and Progress Wrestling, said: “Supreme Extreme is going to be a truly unmissable event and by adding Matt to the mix there’s never been a better reason to come to Liverpool and see what TNT is all about.”

Cardona, 37, won several titles during his time with WWE, including the Intercontinental, United States and Raw Tag Team Championships.

He was also ranked number 70 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated's top 500 wrestlers in the world in 2012.

And Lee McAteer, co-owner of TNT and Progress Wrestling, and the mortal enemy of the Daily Star's favourite wrestler Lana Austin added: “It’s been far too long since the UK shores have seen Matt Cardona, and at TNT Supreme Extreme everyone will see first-hand what they have been missing.

“The three days-worth of events with GCW promises to be a highlight of the year for every wrestling fan.”

Cardona won the historic NWA championship earlier this year, beating fellow former WWE star Trevor Murdoch.

The event will kick off a weekend of shows featuring New Jersey-based cult promotion Game Changer Wrestling at Hanger34 in Liverpool. For ticket details, click here.
