Fans fear SpaceX’s Elon Musk has gone missing after Twitter falls silent

Concerns for the world's richest man are growing among social media users who are questioning why he has not posted on Twitter for more than a week.

Elon Musk, normally a prolific tweeter and the expected next owner of the microblogging site, has not uploaded a post since June 21.

The SpaceX CEO failed to acknowledge any of the floods of birthday wishes he received on Tuesday from his Twitter followers.

Musk has posted almost 19,000 times since opening a Twitter account in June 2009 and recently became the sixth person to accumulate 100 million followers.

But he has fallen silent since his last tweet – a photograph take at a petrol station that attracted more than 750,000 likes.

His absence has not gone unnoticed, with one follower, saying: "I'm surprised and a bit worried about not seeing you on Twitter!"

A second commented: "Is everything fine? I am missing your off the wall humour…" While a third added: "Where have you been @elonmusk? Missing you on Twitter."

Elon Jet, an automated Twitter account which tracks Musk’s private jet trips, showed his last flight was on Friday (June 24) when he landed in Austin, Texas, where his Tesla Headquarters are located.

Some have suggested that Musk may be on a binge drinking getaway for his birthday, although biographer Ashlee Vance has previously confirmed he is not a big drinker.

He could also be taking time out to reflect on the billions of dollars he has haemorrhaged recently, having lost £8.7billion in net worth as Tesla's share price plummeted in May.

Musk could also be silent due to tensions in his personal life after his transgender daughter filed a request with the Los Angeles County Superior Court to change her name to reflect her new gender identity.

She also declared that she "no longer lives with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form".
