Thornton’s Eastlake neighborhood is one of the oldest in the city and is known for its historic town center and beautiful location on East Lake.
Agriculture and the railroad influenced Eastlake’s development, a trend that continues today with the recently opened light rail stop in the heart of the community.
Julie McCollam, a West+Main real estate agent who grew up in Adams County, describes Eastlake as a cute niche community that includes East Lake Shores Park, a neighborhood treasure with a lake and trails.
A flock of wild turkeys also calls the neighborhood home.
“Whenever we drive in that area, we always look for the turkeys and wonder where they are,” McCollam says.
Eastlake offers a mix of housing options, McCollam says.
Because Eastlake’s blocked from growing by other development, there’s little new construction. Most of the single-family homes were built between 1970 and 2000. Buyers who want to avoid stairs can find some newer patio homes.
The average home price is $500,000; homes typically sell in less than a month.
“There’s not a lot of turnover,” McCollam says. “People tend to settle in and stay.”
Who’s moving in?
The neighborhood appeals to families who want to be able to walk their kids to the nearby neighborhood schools.
The purchase price point also draws young couples looking for starter homes, McCollam says.
