Douglas County deputies kill two people in RTD station parking lot shootout

Douglas County deputies shot and killed two people who reportedly first started shooting at the deputies in an RTD station parking lot in Lone Tree, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in a 2:38 a.m. tweet.

The deputies were patrolling the Lincoln Station parking lot when they saw a “suspicious Black Kia with no License Plates and the locks punched out.”

Deputies later confirmed the vehicle was stolen.

When deputies approached the vehicle, people from within the vehicle started shooting at the deputies, the sheriff’s office said.

Six deputies shot back at the people in the vehicle, and two people inside were killed.

One of the deputies was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

The sheriff’s office said there is no longer a danger to the public

The RTD and the sheriff’s office said the Lincoln Station parking garage will be closed for the investigation, and the RTD estimates reopening at 8 a.m.
