Disturbing CCTV as rapist carries woman through city streets before sick attack

A disturbing CCTV footage has emerged capturing a rapist carrying his victim on the empty streets through a city centre.

The video was first released by West Yorkshire Police seven years ago, in 2015 as they hunted for the sex predator Austin Osayande.

Seven years later, he admitted raping the woman and sexually attacking another last year.

The 40-year-old appeared on Friday at Leeds Crown Court via prison video link and entered guilty pleas to one count of rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration, reported Leeds Live.

In the footage released by West Yorkshire Police, Osayande, who dressed in a long black overcoat and trousers, prowled around a car park in the city centre of Leeds on August 14, 2015.

The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been walking to get a taxi home after a night out when Osayande approached her at around 5am.

He spoke to her and walked alongside her before he picked her up in his arms and carried her to the scene of the attack a short distance away, West Yorkshire Police said.

Investigators also said they took an unusual step of releasing footage of the sex attacker in a bid to identify him.

Head of Crime for Leeds District, Detective Superintendent Pat Twiggs said at the time: "The footage of the victim being carried off by this man clearly makes for disturbing viewing.

"We gave very careful consideration to releasing it and secured the consent of the victim who has been left understandably traumatised by what this man did to her.

"I think the CCTV gives a really stark illustration of the very serious nature of this offence and we hope it will focus the public's minds on helping us to identify and trace the man responsible."

Osayande faced a trial after being charged with rape in 2015 and a sexual assault on a woman in the city on September 10 last year.

Today at court, Osayande replied "I'm guilty" to each of the two counts put to him by the court clerk after he previously denied the allegations.

Osayande, of Sissons Road, Leeds, was remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance at the same to be sentenced on February 23.
