Couple who put £3m dream home on market 2 months after win tell why they sold up

A couple who put their £3m dream home up for sale just two months after winning it in a lottery have revealed the reason why.

Uttam Parmar and wife Raki, from Ashby in Leicestershire, won the Grand Designs-style house on August 12 after scooping up a win in an Omaze draw, and put it on the market on October 8.

As reported by MailOnline, the pair decided to sell the property after they realised they couldn't afford the upkeep – and that the neighbourhood wasn't what they were used to.

Uttam said: "It is a fantastic house in a beautiful Cornish location but the price of it comes with a price to keep it and we can't afford to. We are selling it and not keeping it as a holiday home.

"We considered moving there and staying there but with all the costs et cetera it was a lot so we decided to sell it.

"We have an agent dealing with it and we're leaving him to sort it out."

Uttam said they spent some time at the property before deciding to sell up.

"If we could afford to keep it we would. It is beautiful," he said.

"But we are looking to buy some land or a smaller property instead.

"We considered moving there and staying there but with all the costs et cetera it was a lot so we decided to sell it."

But the cost wasn't the only reason the Parmars decided to get rid of the house – Uttam added he felt "out of his depth" in the swanky neighbourhood as a few famous faces had left him starstruck.

"I'm quite a normal guy, there's some celebrity neighbours but I'm not in that showbiz league," Uttam said.

"It would be nice to meet a celebrity in the neighbourhood but we'd be a bit out of our depth."

The couple's home, called The Waterhouse, boasts four large en suite bedrooms, open-plan living areas and stunning views of the River Camel in Cornwall.

The "no expense spared" property is also surrounded by five acres of land and a surf wet room, and is conveniently situated near several beaches.

Omaze told the family at the time of the win that they could sell the house if they wanted to – or rent it out for about £15,000 a month.

But the home has now hit the market, with prospective buyers being encouraged to make offers over £4m.

Shortly after bagging the prize, Uttam said: “We’ve holidayed in Cornwall over the years and always thought it would be incredible to have a place here.

"Whatever we decide, it’s a life changing win for the whole family.”
