Commerce City police say sheriff’s deputy struck, killed pedestrian on highway

An Adams County sheriff’s deputy struck and killed a pedestrian on U.S. 85 early Friday morning, Commerce City police said.

The incident occurred just south of 120th Avenue, on the southbound side of the 11800 block of the highway, at about 1:10 a.m., police said.

Cmdr. Kendall Grove said the pedestrian, so far identified only as an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the deputy, who police said was not injured in the crash, has not been released.

Commerce City police and the 17th Judicial District both say they are investigating. Neither has released details other than to say, in a brief news release, that the pedestrian “walked out onto the highway in front of the deputy who was driving his marked patrol vehicle.”
