The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former First Lady, and 2016 Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton has been an outspoken opponent of Mr Trump for several years. Chelsea, 40, joined in with those attacking Mr Trump for his handling of COVID-19 in response to a clip of the President on Fox News. In the clip, Mr Trump claimed that if states want the federal government to be a good partner to them in fighting the virus, they “have to treat us well”.
Chelsea responded on Twitter: “You are the President of the United State,” all words in caps.
The former First Daughter added: “Not some states. Not just of the people who voted for you.
“Not just of the people who are American citizens ([waving emoji] 2020 census).
“The United States. It’s never too late to start acting like it.”
Her words come after weeks of Mr Trump appearing to downplay the seriousness of the public health crisis sweeping the globe.
In February, he even branded coronavirus a “hoax” and insisted that it would not be a big deal in the US.
Now, the US is topping the global charts in number of cases and appears to be on the steepest trajectory.
It is also third in terms of number of confirmed coronavirus deaths, behind Spain and Italy, although it is believed China’s figures are much higher than they have claimed.
New York has become a hotspot for the virus outbreak, with over 75,000 cases and over 1,500 deaths already in the state.
On March 24, Mr Trump appeared on Fox News, appearing to blame the state of New York for their current situation.
He said: “No, I think we’re doing very well. But, you know, it’s a two-way street, they have to treat us well also.
“They can’t say ‘oh gee, we should get this, we should get that’ ‒ we’re doing a great job.

“Like in New York where we’re building, as I said before, four new hospitals and medical centres ‒ we’re literally building hospitals and medical centres and then I hear there’s a problem with ventilators.
“Well, we sent them ventilators and they could have had 15-16,000, all they had to do was order them two years ago, but they decided not to do it. They can’t blame us for that.”
Governor Cuomo admitted yesterday that “no one knows” when the crisis will be over and said “we underestimated” the deadly virus.
Speaking at a press conference, the Democrat spoke about how he was unifying the state’s private and public healthcare systems to operate at one before the pandemic “apex” hits.
Meanwhile, Chelsea has kept up her scathing criticism of the President.
Yesterday, she responded to a picture of White House briefing room slides that listed “goals” as 100,000 to 240,000 deaths.
She wrote: “Multiple failures ‒ to test every suspected case, to isolate confirmed cases, to contact trace, to adequately prepare and protect our health workers.
“President Donald Trump didn’t cause COVID-19 but people are dying because of his failure in public health, leadership and humanity.”
Chelsea, who used to be friends with the President’s daughter Ivanka Trump, has criticised them both since the 2016 election.
She said on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that Ivanka should be scrutinised, not as the daughter of a President, but as someone who works in the White House.
She added that her former friend has supported policies that she does not agree with and branded the administration “a collision of cruelty and incompetence”.
