Billy’s Inn, an 89-year North Denver staple, opens second restaurant in Congress Park

Call it a late-in-life comeback: Nearly 90 years after Billy’s Inn first opened in Denver, the Northside neighborhood staple is growing to a second location in Congress Park.

The new location of Billy’s near 12th Avenue on Madison Street will serve fish tacos, enchiladas, ground chuck burgers and more starting Monday, Jan. 31.

“Billy’s Inn in Berkeley has been a much-loved neighborhood institution for decades and we’ve long wanted to find just the right place for a second location,” co-owner and City Street Investors Principal Joe Vostrejs said in a release. “When this space in our 12th and Madison property became available, we immediately knew that Billy’s Inn was just the right fit.”

Before Billy’s, the restaurant space had been occupied for more than a decade by Tag Burger Bar, which closed at the end of October. Denver’s City Street Investors has owned Billy’s since 2009; the developer is also behind projects such as Lowry Beer Garden and Denver Union Station.

Congress Park diners can expect a similar menu to the original Berkeley restaurant — green chile, tortas, nachos and more — alongside more than 100 agave spirits and 12 beers on tap. The restaurant will serve dinner daily starting at 4 p.m. with lunch and brunch coming later this winter.
