Speaking to GB News, Chairman of the European Research Group (ERG) Steve Baker dealt a passionate rebuke of the voices that said Brexit would not be a success. He explained how deals struck with Australia and amending of the Japan trade deal are “things people said we would never do”. Mr Baker also stressed how the UK is “expected” to strike a trade deal with the USA which would launch the UK into taking on a larger role on the global stage.

Mr Baker said: “We need to finish doing the trade deals we are doing.

“But you know what? We are doing the things people said we would never do!

“We have done a trade deal with Australia from scratch

“I would expect us to do a deal with the USA.”

“We are acceding to the Trans-Pacific partnership.

“If the USA joins that together with Taiwan that will be over half of worldwide GDP in a new trading bloc!

“With us catalysising that change.

“This has the potential to be an amazing success!”
